Nintendo UK has been supporting Starlight since 1990 and over this time has helped Starlight bring entertainment and distraction to hundreds of thousands of hospitalised children.
2011 saw the launch of the brand new Starlight Fun Centre incorporating the Nintendo Wii console, four Nintendo DSi consoles, a Wii Fit Board, Blu-Ray player, internet access and 32″ HD TV. This represents a radical step into a new era of entertainment and distraction therapy. The addition of the Wii console to the Starlight Fun Centre encourages children to get out of bed or to move about, which benefit healing and recovery.
Starlight is delivering 1,150 Starlight Fun Centres, one for every children’s hospital ward and hospice in the UK. Nintendo have very kindly donated every ‘Nintendo’ element as well as providing delivery and pledging to provide in-field support for the lifetime of the new Starlight Fun Centres.
“Nintendo UK is committed to helping Starlight brighten the lives of seriously and terminally ill children. We are very pleased that, through our continued partnership, Starlight Fun Centres have become a part of nearly every hospitalised child’s experience.”
