Tuesday, 3 July 2012 saw the annual Starlight Wishing Party take place at the Honourable Artillery Company in London. Despite the drizzly weather, 500 guests arrived and were greeted by a diverse crowd of entertainers – from Darth Vader to ballerinas. As if this wasn’t exciting enough, the inside of the marquee was crammed with a catwalk, dance floor, nail painting salon and costume racks so that every little girl could enjoy being a princess.
For brave-hearted boys police dogs, fire engines and riot police were stationed outside. Many children were transformed into Tottenham Hotspurs players or gave army training a try. Even the animals, including husky dogs, reptiles and a porcupine were enjoying themselves.
Amid the bouncy castles and magicians, shows filled the afternoon including the thrilling police display or the pirate show. The awe-inspiring day was concluded with a dance extravaganza including performances from West End Kids and Go! Go! Go! which were greeted with cheers and laughter.
For one magical day the children and their families were able to escape to a wonderland inspired purely by their imaginations. The enthusiastic volunteers and Starlight Team who had worked so hard were rewarded with many excitable grins and huge amounts of giggling from the children.
