Escapes

Escapes

We hold Starlight Escapes throughout the year so children and families can leave the stresses of hospitals and hospices far behind.

Providing the space for social connection has never been more important, help Starlight reach the families who need it most.

We hear time and again how much Starlight Escapes mean not only to seriously ill children, but to their families too. It’s a chance for everyone to forget their worries, meet new people and enjoy a very special day together.

We get up to all sorts – pirate boating parties, film screenings, flying days, summer fetes. While events such as these are not possible at the minute, we have been working hard throughout lockdown to bring vital connection and fun at a difficult time through our Virtual Escape series. From solving mysteries and magic tricks, to dancing and dares, we are able to bring the joy of our Escape days directly into homes across the UK.

It’s given us a break from our normal routine and gave Lachlan something to look forward to. The fact that Starlight considers children and families like ours is amazing. I’m sure a lot of families are having to isolate and so the virtual escape was like a virtual wave and hug that says ‘hi, we see you!’ and that means a lot. Thank you!

Why Escapes matter

When one of the people you love most in the world gets seriously ill, it’s hard to think about anything else. It’s there when you wake up in the morning, when you try to get to sleep at night – and often when you lie awake at night too. At our Starlight Escapes, we do everything we can to take away those worries for a day. It’s a chance for everyone to have fun, press the reset button and find new strength to keep going.

“Going to the Starlight Escape was huge for my daughter. She didn’t feel different — she felt part of something really special. It had a really positive effect on her.”
