Over 30 years of wishes, we helped children meet an astronaut, become a princess, ride in a lifeboat and plenty more.
As part of Starlight’s focus on improving the hospital experience and opportunities for social connection, we want to use play to make the experience of illness and treatment better for more children and families than ever before. From this summer, instead of one-off wishes for some seriously ill children, our aim is to be there for every child that needs us: more services, more frequently.
Following in-depth research into the impact of our services, we now have a better understanding of how Starlight benefits children and their families. With many other charities granting wishes, we have decided to end our wish programme and expand our other services to improve the hospital experience, provide social connection; using the power of play to make the experience of illness and treatment better for children and their families. We will now be able to reach even more families than before to ensure that, in the unlikeliest of circumstances, play is protected.
We will complete our commitments to deliver the wishes we currently have planned as best we can with current restrictions, by the end of August 2021.
