Serious illness can take away so many things that are precious about childhood. When children are diagnosed with a life-threatening or life-shortening illness, we grant personalised Starlight Wishes to bring back the fun and magic of childhood that medial treatment may have taken away.
We’ve helped children meet an astronaut, become a princess, ride in a lifeboat and plenty more. Throughout lockdown Starlight Wishes have been providing some immediate comfort and relief to children in isolation, from hot tubs for children who no longer have access to hydrotherapy classes, to bedroom makeovers that make home confinement more fun.
Help us grant our promised wishes for seriously ill children.
He has had such a tough few years and he is such a lovely strong boy. I would love for him to do something special that he would never forget. I see this as a forever wish – you never know what the future holds but this would be an experience that he can have for the rest of his life.
Wishes for the whole family
Whenever we can, we try to involve parents, brothers and sisters in Starlight Wishes. When a child is seriously ill in hospital, it’s a huge weight on everyone’s mind. It means there’s less time for families to be families. It can put relationships under strain. So we want the whole family to be part of these once-in-a-lifetime days. It’s the perfect way for everyone to share an experience that becomes a treasured memory.
Starlight Wishes update
Covid-19 (Coronavirus) is currently impacting all our lives and this is likely to continue for some time. Starlight understands just how important wishes are for seriously ill children and their families, but the virus presents risks for those who are more vulnerable, which we need to consider in our response to it.
We have therefore taken the very difficult decision to stop accepting new wish applications. This will help us to manage the uncertainty and delays in granting existing wishes.
Unfortunately, this means that you can’t refer a child for a wish at the moment and we are unable to currently advise when this situation will change. Please do continue to monitor our website for further updates.
