Lace up your trainers and run the London Marathon for #TeamStarlight

“I ran the London Marathon for Starlight and it was the best running experience of my life! The team's passion, dedication, advice and positivity helped me through the lead up to and the day itself."

Dipak, Team Starlight 2019

London’s most iconic race is back, taking place on Sunday 3rd October 2021, and there are still #TeamStarlight charity places available.

Running the London Marathon is an experience like no other, and running for charity makes every step you take worth the challenge. Every mile you run and every penny you raise will help us support seriously ill children at a time when play and having fun have never been more important.

There are lots of ways to take on the marathon with Starlight: apply for a charity place and fundraise your way to the start line, or use your own ballot place to make your day even more special.

Dipak used his ballot place to run for Starlight in 2019, and can’t wait until he gets the chance to do so again:

"I was amazed at just how much of a positive difference they make to the lives of children (and families) and the way they achieve this. I felt part of the team from day one with their continuous support and motivation. I can't wait to run for Starlight again!”

Or, if you’re taking 2021 at your own pace then the Virtual London Marathon could be for you. Taking place on the same day as the main race, you can join in whenever, wherever and however you want.

Angus ran the virtual event for Team Starlight in 2020. He started running in using couch-to-5k just before his 40th birthday. In the run-up to turning 45, a marathon seemed to be the “logical” next challenge.

Despite the day of the virtual marathon being as wet as could be, Angus had a committed group of socially-distanced supporters who braved the weather to cheer him on: it eventually turned into a game of how many street corners could they appear on! Angus also roped in a couple of friends to run stretches of the marathon with him, which was great moral support and made the miles fly by.

"As a family, we know a number of children who have required intensive hospitalisation, with long-term follow-up being required. These families were particularly grateful for any additional entertainment and distractions that charities provided their children. I was really pleased to be offered a London Marathon place by Starlight to help support other families in the same situation as my friends. I felt really proud to promote such a great charity."
