Young patients and staff at UCLH (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) celebrated the start of National Play in Hospital Week.
The event was organised by the National Association of Health Play Specialists (NAHPS), a charity which promotes the physical and mental well being of children in hospitals, hospices or receiving medical care at home, and supported by Starlight.
The launch event, held in the atrium at University College Hospital, was attended by play specialists, patients and hospital visitors. Captain Starlight, Starlight’s new in-hospital entertainers, were also on hand to entertain the guests with bubbles, face paints and songs.
The objective of the week is to raise awareness of the benefits of play, distraction and recreation on a child’s hospital experience, and the role of the health play specialist for children and young people who are patients in hospital, hospice or receiving medical care at home.
