Steve Wilson from Hoar Cross, Staffordshire took on the Polar Bear Challenge to raise funds for Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Set on the Greenland Ice Sheet, the Polar Bear Challenge saw Steve run an Arctic marathon on Saturday 24th October and a half marathon on the Sunday 25th October in temperatures of minus 14 degrees Celsius through snow and glacier tongues.
Steve completed the marathon in 3 hours and 53 minutes. He placed seventh in the marathon and placed sixth overall in the Polar Bear Challenge!
Commenting on the challenge, Steve said, “It was fantastic! It was very cold on the first day with a wind chill of minus thirty degrees. It was very hard running into the wind but I loved the whole experience. Running a marathon in the Arctic is something completely different and I doubt I’ll ever do anything like this again.”
This is the seventh running challenge Steve has done for Starlight this year, covering over 144 miles for the charity – what a superstar!
