A 48 strong group from The Costain Skanska Joint Venture project team, who have been contracted to build Crossrail’s new Paddington station, has completed a gruelling charity cycle along the new Crossrail route for Starlight.
The 75 mile challenge, which took the cyclists an average of seven hours (and a lot of punctures!), started at Shenfield Station and finished at Maidenhead. The team hopes to raise £10,000 in total for Starlight and is well on the way with over £3,000 already donated.
The funds raised by Costain Skanska’s charity cycle will enable the charity to grant the once-in-a-lifetime wish of 10 year old Dylon Fosuhene from London. Dylon was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome just days before Christmas in 2007. It is a chronic illness that affects the kidneys and, as a result of the constant risk of relapse, he is always trying new medicines, which often carry painful and unpleasant side effects.
Dylon would love to go skiing in Switzerland and, as he has never been before, a skiing trip with his family would be a dream come true. When he was referred to Starlight for a wish, he said, “Thank you for giving me this opportunity – you have made me really happy.”
