Along with her dad, 9 year-old Pearl has dedicated one night a month to hitching a tent, bundling up for the cold and sleeping under the stars to raise money and awareness for Starlight.

Pearl was first inspired to raise money for charity after seeing her dad complete the Coast to Coast Hiking Charity race in the summer of 2021. After deciding she wanted to camp outside one night a month, the next step was deciding which charity Pearl would support.

As a firefighter, Pearl’s dad was first introduced to Starlight whilst doing fire cover at a local Starlight event. After telling Pearl about the charity, she was inspired by the work we do to bring play to all seriously ill children across the UK.

I chose Starlight because I want poorly children to have fun.

Pearl

Pearl has so far completed 5 nights sleeping under the stars with the latest one a true camping experience out in the woods. A local farmer has agreed to let Pearl and her dad complete the rest of her challenge in his woods to make the experience more unique and challenging!

Despite the cold and snowy nights, Pearl and her dad are toughing it out and enjoying the experience. So far, she has exceeded her challenge’s fundraising goal, but is determined to keep camping outside until August 2022 and raise as money as she can for Starlight and seriously ill children.
