Starlight Children’s Foundation was pleased to support the seventh NAHPS National Play in Hospital Week 2017 from Monday 9th – Saturday 14 October. The year’s theme was centred around ‘The Power of Play’ and Play Teams across the country were encouraged to plan a fun week of activities to raise awareness of the importance of play in the treatment of poorly children and young people.
This year, Play Teams across the country were invited to enter a national competition to be in with a chance of winning some fabulous prizes! Teams were asked to create something to show how play improves the patient experience and we were delighted to see the hard work and creativity that went into the entries, which ranged from photographs of displays to original songs about the power of play! We found it very difficult to pick the winners as the standard was so high this year, and we really appreciate all the efforts of everyone who entered the competition. Hopefully you all had fun putting your entries together!
The winners of this year’s NPIHW competition are as follows:
First Prize: Southend Hospital
The Play Team of Neptune Ward put together a fantastic comic strip, where their superhero alter-egos save the power of play! They displayed their comic strip in their ward and you can see the full comic at the bottom of the page.
They also created an amazing video with quotes from staff members about the importance of the power of play and their responses were also made into ward display.
Second Prize: Gloucestershire Royal NHS Foundation Trust
The Children’s Centre at Gloucestershire Royal created an original song about the power of play and made a fantastic music video which you can see here!
Third Prize: Morriston Hospital
ABMU Children’s Services, Morriston Hospital- Oakwood Ward, Ward M and the Paediatric Assessment Unit created ‘Planet Play’ within their hospital and explained their activities for the week in their entry which you can see here.
Congratulations to all the winners! Vouchers for The Entertainer and goodies from NAHPS were sent out to all the winners as prizes.
