Nominations have now closed

What are the awards?

Every year, Starlight celebrate Play in Hospital Week, the national awareness week focusing on the important role of play and distraction in children’s hospital treatment.

Starlight’s Health Play Specialist of the Year Awards are back to celebrate the amazing work of Play Specialists and health professionals who go above and beyond to facilitate play for children and young people in hospitals and hospices across the UK.

This year the awards are bigger than ever as weve added new categories to highlight all of those who use the power of play. See below for all the categories and how to nominate someone.

What are the awards?

Starlight Health Play Specialist of the Year

Now in its fourth year, the Health Play Specialist of the Year is a nationally recognised award for colleagues throughout health services to nominate the Play Specialists that make such a difference to children and families on their units. If you would like to nominate a registered Play Specialist for this prestigious award then please click below to complete the application.

Starlight Play Team of the Year

This award recognises Play Teams who always go the extra mile to bring play to children and young people, working together to improve the hospital experience. If you would like to nominate your Play Team, or a team you work with for this award then please click below to complete the application.

Little Star Stories

If you have an outstanding story of bravery and resilience shown by a child or young person, when play and distraction helped a little star through their hospital visit/treatment – we would love to shine a light on it this Play in Hospital Week! There is opportunity to include this in your nomination for Play Specialist of the Year, or Play Team of the Year.

The Protector of Play Award

This new award is for those health professionals who overcome adversity and continue to facilitate play and improve hospital experiences for children. It could be that your hospital has no play team, no access to resources for play or that Covid-19 has limited your ability to facilitate play. We want to understand the challenges you have faced, and celebrate the work of any health professional, not just registered Play Specialists, that protects the right of children to play. If you would like to nominate yourself, or someone you work with, then please complete the nomination form below.
