Exclusive new bar and pizzeria Bunga Bunga hosts Weigh-In Party in aid of Starlight
16/09/2011 – Capitalising on the success of its biennial Boxing Ball and London’s burgeoning amateur boxing trend, fine jeweller Boodles last night opened the doors of exclusive new bar and pizzeria Bunga Bunga to a host of boxing beaus and beauties for its infamous Weigh-In Party.
Guests at the event, which was in aid of Starlight Children’s Foundation and Lt Dougie Dalzell MC Memorial Trust, were treated to an evening of drinks and dancing, while getting to see the Boodles’ ten amateur boxers weigh-in ahead of their fights on 1st October at Boodles Boxing Ball.
The boxers, who are all amateurs in the sport, have been in intensive training for over six months in preparation for the ring. One of the boxers, Hugh ‘Hunter’ van Cutsem, says he loves the challenge of the sport but admits that his wife is not exactly delighted about the thought of him in combat!
On 1st October Hugh, who is a long-standing supporter of Starlight, will be pitted against Andy ‘Jackhammer’ Jennings, whose best friend was Lt Dougie Dalzell MC, who lost his life while serving with the Coldstream Guards in Afghanistan. Andy will be fighting in Dougie’s memory and to raise funds for the foundation set up in his name. Investment banker Andy, who describes his boxing style as “lethal”, will be supported during his fight against Hugh by a number of soldiers in ceremonial dress.
All proceeds from the Boodles Weigh-In Party were donated to Starlight Children’s Foundation, which grants wishes for seriously and terminally ill children and provides entertainment in hospitals and hospices, and Lt Dougie Dalzell MC Memorial Trust, which seeks to assist persons who are currently serving or have served in the Armed Forces and their dependants.

James Amos, who is a Director of Boodles, a founding member of the Boodles Boxing Ball committee and a former Boodles boxer, said, “Boodles is delighted to be able to support the Boxing Ball, which has consistently echoed the spirit of Boodles by creating an event with a very social atmosphere, lots of energy and plenty of good humour. It is a perfect opportunity for Boodles to introduce a young, London society crowd to the brand.
“The association with Starlight is also very appealing to the Boodles brand, whose directors are themselves all family members and who very much embrace all aspects of family life and, crucially, children. Starlight aims to brighten the lives of poorly children throughout the country and we are really pleased to be able to help bring smiles and laughter to these kids and their families when they need it most.”

To be held on 1st October 2011 at the Park Plaza Hotel on Westminster Bridge, the event will see 850 high profile guests join sponsors Boodles and Asahi for a glittering evening of entertainment and high-energy amateur boxing in aid of two very worthy causes.
The benefitting charities of the evening will be Starlight Children’s Foundation, which grants wishes for seriously and terminally ill children and provides entertainment in hospitals and hospices, and Lt Dougie Dalzell MC Memorial Trust, which seeks to assist persons who are currently serving or have served in the Armed Forces and their dependants.
With the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry among them, in 2008 guests raised a staggering amount for Starlight Children’s Foundation, which has helped the charity to brighten the lives of some of the UK’s most poorly children since.

Starlight grants once-in-a-lifetime wishes for seriously and terminally ill children, restoring the magic and fun of childhood and giving the whole family happy memories to share, whatever the future holds.
Starlight also creates entertainment in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK. Sick children go to Starlight parties, laugh their way through pantomimes, go out on Starlight Escapes, play games and watch films on the Starlight Fun Centre, and enjoy the toys and puzzles of the Starlight Distraction Box. Happy children respond better to treatment and Starlight helps children to forget about their illness and simply have a bit of fun.
