Starlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s number one wish granting charity for children suffering from serious and terminal illnesses – has just granted brave William Hart (10) his dearest wish to go to Disneyland and meet with his favourite characters!
In Sept 2008, William’s sister noticed he had a lump at the top of his thigh and after a biopsy at the Hart’s local hospital, their worst fears were confirmed. William was immediately put on chemotherapy for a form of cancer called a Primitive Neuro-Ectodermal Tumour. Since then William and his family’s lives have been turned upside down with treatment and hospital stays. He has had two operations and three sessions of intensive chemotherapy as well as lots of other medication. Despite everything William always stayed positive and as soon as Starlight heard about William’s one wish to go to Disneyland and spend time with his family far away from the hospital they immediately set about making it come true.
The dream began when William, his mum, dad and little sister Rhea (8) flew to Disneyland Paris. The family stayed at the exclusive Sequoia Lodge Hotel and had a thrilling filled few days, going on all the rides, meeting William’s favourite Disney characters at the character breakfast at the Mickey café and just having the time of their lives. Brave William even went on some very scary roller-coasters, jumping the queue with his fast-pass card that Starlight had given him, his absolute favourite was the Tower of Terror.
William’s dad Ade told Starlight:
“We just want to say a huge thank you to Starlight for granting William’s wish! William absolutely loved the trip to Disney …in fact he would like to live there! We all had a very magical time and have wonderful memories that will remain with us for the rest of our lives.
We all send our gratitude to you and your team, the whole trip was perfectly organised and everything ran without one single hitch. In the near future my wife and I are hoping to raise some money for Starlight because it is such an amazing and valuable charity.”
William is now back at Rosemelin school, his hair has grown back and despite check ups every few months he is doing really well. His parents are so proud of him for always being so amazing, and Starlight are so pleased to have been able to be able to grant him his well deserved wish.

Starlight grants a once-in-a-lifetime wish for seriously and terminally ill children, restoring the magic and fun of childhood and giving the whole family happy memories to share, whatever the future holds.
Starlight also creates entertainment in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK. Sick children go to Starlight parties, laugh their way through pantomimes, go out on Starlight Escapes, play games and watch films on the Starlight Fun Centre, and enjoy the toys and puzzles of the Starlight Distraction Box. Happy children respond better to treatment and Starlight helps children to forget about their illness and simply have a bit of fun.
