It’s a Disney dream come true for Ben!

Ben Murray at Disneyland Paris

Ben Murray at Disneyland Paris22/08/11 – Six year old Ben Murray from Invergowrie near Dundee has had his dearest wish to go to Disneyland Paris granted by Starlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s leading wish granting charity for children with serious and terminal illnesses.

When Ben was just eight months old, his weight suddenly plummeted over a few days and his health rapidly deteriorated.  Since this time, Ben has had to overcome all kinds of medical difficulties and yet his condition is still largely undiagnosed.  He has spent a huge amount of time in hospital and has had a number of complicated procedures, including a gastrostomy at the age of two.

Ben’s mum Tanya told Starlight, “Although Ben is ill for long periods, he is a sociable and bright little boy and at times this makes it really difficult when he is in hospital.  He tells me he just wants to be like all the other little boys and girls and be part of his class and get out and about like other children his age.  Unfortunately, however, this can’t happen as his immunity and resistance to infection is compromised and his stamina is low due to being ill so often.”

The youngster, who loves animals, planes and trains, was referred to Starlight for a once-in-a-lifetime wish and the charity arranged for him to go to the magical EuroDisney resort in Paris with his family.  At the theme park, Ben was able to explore all the resort’s excitements with the help of a special guide and meet some of his favourite Disney characters, while staying in the beautiful Sequoia Lodge that overlooks Lake Disney with his family.

On their return, Tanya said, “What can I say apart from the biggest thank you to Starlight ever!  It was the most amazing time that Starlight gave Ben (and all our family) and we can’t put into words how precious and lovely the trip was.  I can only describe it as magical.”
