Jack gets the shirt off Frank Lampards back!

Football fanatic Jack Scott (10) from Wickford in Essex has just has his ultimate dream to go and meet his Chelsea heroes granted by Starlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s leading wish-granting charity for children with serious and terminal illnesses.

Jack was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in August 2009 after suffering from pains in his legs; a blood test at the Scott’s local hospital revealed the family worst fear – Jack had cancer. The family’s lives were turned up-side-down as Jack was immediately started on gruelling treatment, including chemotherapy. “Despite everything that Jack has to go through, he never complains”, mum Maria, said to Starlight “he just gets on with it, it’s amazing just how brave he’s been”.

Jack’s parents wanted to give him something special to look forward to and contacted Starlight Children’s Foundation, Maria said “We wanted Jack to be able to look forward to something we would never be able to give him, something he would be able to remember for the rest of his life as a positive point at this very difficult time”. Starlight contacted Chelsea football club who were more than happy to grant brave Jack his wish!

With a wave of a Starlight magic wand (and a limo), Jack, his mum, dad and brother Luke (7) were transported to the Chelsea training ground where they had a fantastic day watching the players practice before meeting them all individually, having photos with them and chatting about football whilst the players signed their autographs. As it was Jacks 10th birthday on the day of his wish, Frank Lampard, Jacks favourite player, also gave him the shirt off his back which he signed especially for him! The boys were taken on an exclusive “footballers only” tour of the changing rooms by John Terry before the family headed up to London for Jack’s birthday meal in the Rainforest Café, which of course included a massive birthday cake with 10 candles on for Jack to blow out! The icing on the cake of a perfect day.

“We just had the most fantastic time! Starlight really have given us the chance to see Jack’s wish come true and spend quality time together away from the hospital. It was a day none of us will forget and Jack has definitely got his sights set on being in the team one day now – it couldn’t have come at a better time after all his treatment but has made us all feel hopeful about the future!”

Starlight are delighted to have been able to grant this special wish to brave Jack and are very happy to report that after 8 months spent at home and having treatment he is now back part-time at Oakfield Primary School.
