Jordan’s dream to meet England football team come true

Middlesbrough supporter Jordan Dee, aged 15, has had his wish to attend an England Football Club training day granted by Starlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s leading wish granting charity for children with serious and terminal illnesses.

Jordan was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic muscle disease, eleven years ago. The condition, which makes many activities usually taken for granted such as walking difficult, has meant that brave Jordan has had to miss out on many opportunities growing up with his friends.

When Jordan’s parents, Julie and Lee, first asked Jordan what his dearest wish would be, he immediately replied that it would be to meet the England team and to see them train. Little did he know that his parents were secretly organising with Starlight for this very wish to come true.

The adventure had been planned for months when Jordan’s granddad, Barry, sadly passed away the day before the trip. However, Barry, who had known about the wish beforehand, had insisted that the trip should go ahead, knowing the happiness it would bring Jordan.

Jordan and his dad went along to the training day at Arsenal Football Club, where they met stars Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Gareth Barry and England manager Fabio Capello. Starlight also sent them sightseeing in London, including a ride on a riverboat and a flight on the London Eye.

Lee said: “We only told Jordan the day before that he was off to meet the team and he simply couldn’t believe it. He was absolutely blown away. He loved seeing the team train from only a few yards away and he was trilled to meet some of his heroes.

“He has been talking about it non-stop ever since and keeps asking his mates over to see the photos. It was an amazing opportunity and I can’t thank Starlight enough for making the impossible happen for Jordan.”
