Luke Anthony, aged 15, from Taffs Well, Cardiff, has had his ultimate dream to meet singer Peter Andre and have a London shopping spree, granted by Starlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s leading wish-granting charity for children with serious illnesses.
The teenager, who was diagnosed at birth with cystic fibrosis, a life shortening condition that affects all the organs of the body, especially the lungs and breathing, also has diabetes and, although he attends mainstream school, his childhood has been full of endless treatments and hospital visits.
Luke’s cystic fibrosis has caused a number of medical complications including the loss of his sight and he is now registered blind but still has some limited sight left. Luke’s hospital play specialist, Jayne Williams, told Starlight: “It would be wonderful if Luke could receive a wish sooner rather than later whilst he is still able to enjoy it fully.”
Mum Clair says his confidence was severely knocked with the deterioration of his sight. She said that, having been through so much, to have his dream of a celebrity style weekend in London complete with Peter Andre and a shopping spree come true “would mean the world to Luke as he thinks things like this only happen on TV and in films.”
Unfortunately Luke was hospitalised with viral hepatitis in February and, although he was able to meet Peter Andre in March, he was too unwell to travel to London for a shopping spree with the star. Unwilling to let Luke miss out on his shopping trip, Starlight organised for Luke to come to London later in the year when he was fit enough to do so.
The charity arranged a luxury suite in London for Luke, his mum Clair and his best friend and filled the room with goodies and treats to simulate Home Alone 2, the film that inspired Luke’s celebrity-style wish, and a limo to take the trio around London’s most famous shops for some serious retail therapy.
Luke’s mum Clair said of the wish: “Even though it came in two parts, it couldn’t have been better. He was absolutely spoilt rotten, which was nothing less than he deserves. It was fantastic that he could enjoy the shopping with his best mate who has been so supportive during Luke’s illness. Thank you Starlight for organising this for him – we will never forget it!”

Starlight grants a once-in-a-lifetime wish for seriously and terminally ill children, restoring the magic and fun of childhood and giving the whole family happy memories to share, whatever the future holds.
Starlight also creates entertainment in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK. Sick children go to Starlight parties, laugh their way through pantomimes, go out on Starlight Escapes, play games and watch films on the Starlight Fun Centre, and enjoy the toys and puzzles of the Starlight Distraction Box. Happy children respond better to treatment and Starlight helps children to forget about their illness and simply have a bit of fun.
