Sadie soaks up the sun in Corfu with Starlight

14/10/2010 – Sadie Hawker, aged 7, from Truro in Cornwall, has had her greatest wish to go on a holiday somewhere warm granted by Starlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s leading wish granting charity for children with serious and terminal illnesses.

In 2008, Sadie was diagnosed with Wilm’s Tumour, for which she has had to undergo chemotherapy. Sadie also has cerebral palsy, which means that she has limited mobility and poor hearing, vision and speech.
Sadie’s mum, Vanessa, told Starlight: “She is a very bright and cheerful little girl who at present is making a good recovery from a terrible ordeal.”

Sadie’s Starlight wish was to have a holiday in a warm country with a kids club. “Sadie loves to play on the beach and enjoys a warm climate – to see her happily playing with other children and generally enjoying life again means the world to us and to be able to do this together in a relaxed environment would do Sadie a lot of good,” her mum said.

Starlight flew Sadie and her family out to Kerkyra Golf Hotel on the Greek island of Corfu. Staying at the beachside hotel for seven days meant that Sadie, who loves swimming, was able to spend the week long holiday splashing around in the sea and in the pool with her family. This was particularly special for Sadie because earlier this year she broke her leg and was unable to enjoy her favourite hobby due to the plaster cast, which luckily was removed shortly before the holiday in Corfu.

Sadie’s mum Vanessa said of the holiday: “It was a really happy holiday for Sadie and our family as a whole. Sadie loved being able to swim in the sea and the kids club was wonderful. She has been such a brave girl and it was lovely to see her enjoying herself on what was a very relaxing trip for us all.”
