12/10/11 – Starlight’s largest ever running fundraiser took place last weekend, with over 100 runners racing through London’s Royal Parks to raise funds for Starlight.

Starting and finishing in Hyde Park, the 13.1 mile Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon runs across four of London’s stunning Royal Parks – Hyde Park, St. James’s Park, Kensington Gardens and Green Park. Runners also take in some of the capital’s most historic landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the Albert Memorial.

Cheered on by Starlight’s animated supporters, including some of the children’s whose wishes will be granted with the money raised by the team, the charity’s runners ran alongside a whole host of famous faces. Gordon and Tana Ramsay, Ben Fogle, Tom Aikens, Tessa Sanderson, James Cracknell, Nell McAndrew, Bill Nighy, Charley Boorman and The Saturdays have all supported in previous years.  After the race, the team and all their supporters joined us at our post-race party in Knightsbridge where they were treated to a congratulatory massage and some well earned rest and relaxation.

The money that the runners raise will not only help Starlight bring fun, laughter and distraction to lots of poorly children across the country, but it will also enable the charity to grant the wishes of brave children like eight year old Bobbie from London.

Since October 2010, Bobbie has been suffering from a brain tumour.  In addition to cancer, she has also had to battle with Hypopituitarism, which is a painful condition that affects the pituitary gland, and Diabetes.  Before the tumour was found, Bobbie was a very active girl who loved swimming, dancing, obstacle courses and rock climbing.  Bobbie’s Starlight wish is to go swimming with dolphins and she told Starlight, “I would love to swim with dolphins because I like sea animals and swimming!”  With Starlight’s runners help, her wish can come true!

With over 91p of every pound raised going directly to the cause, the money that Starlight’s runners raise really will make a massive difference to poorly children across the country.
