Newman's Own Foundation cheque presentation27/05/2011 – Starlight Children’s Foundation has received a £15,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation. The grant will help the charity, which brightens the lives of sick children across the UK, grant the once-in-a-lifetime wishes of seriously and terminally ill children and bring entertainment to hospitals and hospices throughout the country.

Neil Swan, Starlight’s chief executive, said: “By granting special wishes and providing fun and laughter in children’s wards across the UK, Starlight aims to distract poorly children from the pain, fear and isolation they can often feel as a result of their illness. We can only continue this valuable work with the help of our supporters and we thank Newman’s Own Foundation for their wonderful contribution.”

Resonating with the late Paul Newman’s passion for motor racing, specifically the grant will enable Starlight to send a number of Formula 1™ mad children on the trip of their dreams. At the Monaco Grand Prix, the children will meet their very own motor sporting heroes, soak up the excitement of the world famous competition and enjoy a completely unique experience, while escaping, for a few days at least, their all too familiar routine of hospital visits and treatment.

The grant was announced by Robert Forrester, president of Newman’s Own Foundation (pictured above with Neil Swan and Sarah Dawson from Starlight), at an event in Central Hall, London.

“We recognise the needs of communities, especially during these difficult economic times,” said Mr. Forrester. “Paul Newman was committed to helping make the world a better place. He believed in sharing his good fortune with those in need. We are proud to be able to continue his philanthropic legacy today and to assist the work of Starlight Children’s Foundation.”

For nearly twenty years, Paul and Newman’s Own Foundation have supported a diverse range of UK charities.

Starlight grants a once-in-a-lifetime wish for seriously and terminally ill children, restoring the magic and fun of childhood and giving the whole family happy memories to share, whatever the future holds.

Starlight also creates entertainment in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK. Sick children go to Starlight parties, laugh their way through pantomimes, go out on Starlight Escapes, play games and watch films on the Starlight Fun Centre, and enjoy the toys and puzzles of the Starlight Distraction Box. Happy children respond better to treatment and Starlight helps children to forget about their illness and simply have a bit of fun.

You can make a donation online or by calling us on 020 7262 2881. For every £1 you donate, Starlight can assure you that 91p goes towards helping very ill children. To refer a child for a wish, simply complete our wish referral form.
