STARRlight wish comes true!

Starr, her parents and two brothers Mitchell (17) and Teejay (11) had the time of their lives visiting family, playing on the beach and generally spending quality time together in the beautiful surroundings of Jamaica.

When Starr was just 3 years old her parents took her to the doctors as she couldn’t seem to shake off a cold and had lost a lot of weight.  Starr went and had some tests at her local hospital and within half an hour the family was waiting for an ambulance to take her directly to Great Ormond Street Hospital; as she was diagnosed with Accute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, an aggressive childhood cancer.  Starr had nearly three years of chemotherapy, which she had such a bad reaction to was in hospital for more time than she was out of it.

Starr’s mum Amanda said

“It was so awful for all of us and had such a massive impact on the family” but Starr always stayed positive and when she was asked for her dearest wish she simply said I want to see coconuts growing in the wild and pick one!”

The wish-granters at Starlight Children’s Foundation immediately sprung into action to make little Starr’s dearest wish come true and when they discovered Starr’s family were from Jamaica they decided this would be the perfect place for Starr’s wish to come true! Last month the family flew to Montego Bay resort in Jamaica. They had the most amazing time seeing family, enjoying the activities on the resort like jetskiing and of course Starr got to see coconuts growing in the wild as well!

Amanda told Starlight:

“Thank you so much Starlight for the PERFECT holiday! I cannot describe what this means to Starr, and all of us – we have never had a family holiday and would always talk about it when Starr was at her lowest points! After nearly 3 years of treatment and anguish, it really is amazing to have such a great start to a new beginning – we didn’t want to come home!”

Starr is now in remission for her cancer, back at school and looking forward to a brighter future!
