Decorating the tree at Clarence House

A special lady needed some help decorating her Christmas tree, so some Starlight children went to the rescue!

It’s not often you receive an invitation from Clarence House but that is exactly what happened to six Starlight wish children when they were invited to help HRH The Duchess of Cornwall decorate the Christmas tree in the Library at Clarence House.

Nicola (15), Amy (6), Alice (5), Caitlin (8), Neve (7) and Drew (6) all had a super time decorating the tree with The Duchess of Cornwall and a guardsman in his traditional scarlet tunic and bearskin. The guardsman even used his sabre to place some of the ornaments on the tree!

After the tree was decorated, the youngsters were all treated to a Christmas lunch with festive treats!

Neve and Drew’s mum, Phillippa, said, “It was fantastic coming here and a bit surreal – the girls are never going to do anything like this ever again and it’s something they will remember.” Neve and Drew, who both have cystic fibrosis, have asked to swim with dolphins and Starlight is granting their wish later this year.

Neil Swan, Starlight’s Chief Executive said, “We were thrilled that The Duchess of Cornwall invited Starlight children to visit Clarence House and to help decorate the Christmas tree. We are very grateful for her support of the important work Starlight undertakes to brighten the lives of seriously and terminally ill children around the country.”
