Alice’s holiday in the Menorca sunshine

Alice in Menorca2

Alice and her family have had the holiday of a lifetime in Menorca, playing round the pool, swimming at the beach and enjoying the sunshine, after Alice told Starlight her greatest wish was to go on a beach holiday with her family.

In 2008 Alice underwent a heart transplant, having suffered from a rare cardiomyopathy (heart disease) since birth and then spending a record 228 days attached to an artificial heart machine which sustained her life whilst waiting for a donor.  Last year she also beat cancer.

The family had a relaxing two week holiday, where they enjoyed the lovely hot weather, went to the beach, soaked up the sun by the pool and went to the local restaurants and the waterpark. Alice, who will have to remain on anti-rejection drugs for life after her heart transplant, had the most amazing time building up her strength in the sun after a very difficult 6 years spent in and out of hospital. She even learned to swim in pool of the beautiful resort where the Hipkiss’ stayed!

Mum Liz said: “Thank you so much to Starlight for granting Alice’s wish – the whole holiday was amazing, everything was perfect. Alice has gained so much confidence during this holiday and we are so proud of her learning to swim!  We have spent so much time in hospitals in recent years, often with the family split miles apart, it was such a relief to be able to enjoy relaxing time all together in the sun.”
