“On the face of it, a wheelchair does not sound a very exciting wish, but combined with Auriel’s courage and determination, it enabled her to enjoy so many of those things so important to a teenager,” Auriel’s dad Gerald said.
Auriel had liver cancer. Her wish for a specialist wheelchair gave her the opportunity to enjoy life. She led the singing at karaoke evenings, visited Highbury to see her beloved Arsenal, met sports personality Bob Wilson, went shopping and spent time with her friends.
Gerald added: “We were able to get to so many places together, to share her humour, enthusiasm for history, politics and justice — her zest for life.”
