Ben’s weekend at Silverstone

Behind the wheel

Ben in front of the car15-year-old Ben has been suffering from leukaemiam and has been through some grueling treatment over the last year.  Although now hopefully through the worst of it, he is still on maintenance chemotherapy.

His Starlight wish was to watch the British Touring Car Championships at Silverstone. So, last month Starlight took Ben and his family to the race track for a whole weekend.

The team at Motorbase Performance / Airwaves ensured Ben and his family were well looked after and fed.  They got lots of goodies for him too, including a jacket which Ben was looking forward to showing off at school.

The Dunlop team was also brilliant and arranged for Ben to present the trophies after the first BTCC race on Sunday morning – he was nervous, but so chuffed to be on TV and was on the phone to his brother straight away to boast about his new fame!

Afterwards, Ben’s mother, Lynn, called Starlight to say what a fantastic time they’d had and how excited Ben was to go to school and tell all his friends about his weekend.  It has given him extra impetus to get back to school full time and work hard for his exams so that he can be a mechanic once he has finished his GCSEs.  Lynn said it was such a special experience for the whole family, and it provided some much needed relief from Ben’s medical worries.
