Four Starlight children have the time of their lives at the Monaco Grand Prix

Four children and teenagers; Asher, Scott, Felix and Oscar enjoyed a very special experience at this year’s Monaco Grand Prix.

During the trip the excited four spent time with each team and met F1 drivers including defending champion Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Max Vertappen, Fernado Alonso and Sergey Sirotkin.

Asher, 19 who has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, is a huge F1 fan and his Starlight Wish was to see Lewis Hamilton race. Asher said “to meet my hero Lewis Hamilton was incredible, it was a life changing experience that I will never forget. The whole thing from meeting him and watching him race was just perfect!”.

The youngest of the group Oscar, 8 – who was born with Scoliosis and has undergone multiple operations over the years – is totally F1 crazy. He already had his treasured signed photo from Lewis Hamilton, so it’s no surprise that his wish was to meet him in person. Thanks to Starlight, not only did his wish come true, but Lewis even picked up Oscar and put him in his race car, an experience that Oscar called “amazing and the best time of his life”. Oscar said of the trip, ‘everyone was so kind to us and all the drivers were amazing. Thank you Starlight for making my dreams come true!”.

Following the race, Oscar even joked that the winner of the Monaco Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo, had climbed up in his rankings from fourth place to his second favourite driver, following Lewis in first place of course.

Another highlight of the trip for the group was interviewing the F1 drivers before the race as part of Sky Sports F1’s coverage, which was shown on the race day on the Sunday. Natalie Pinkham was happy to pass the microphone to such Grand Prix experts!

Gordon Craig, Director of Fundraising at Starlight said:

“It was very moving to see all the children and teenagers meet their heroes and enjoy such an incredible trip of a lifetime after all they had been through in their young lives. All of the teams, drivers and everyone from the F1 world said what a highlight of the weekend it was for them to meet the group, which was very humbling.

“We would like to particularly thank the Mercedes, Williams, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and McLaren teams and drivers and Sky Sports for helping us give the children and their families’ memories they will never forget. Wishes like these wouldn’t be possible, however, without the public’s continued support. To find out how you can help please visit“
