Jack gets the shirt off Frank Lampard’s back

Football fanatic Jack from Essex was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2009. After suffering from pains in his legs, a blood test at the local hospital confirmed the family’s worst fear – Jack had cancer.

Their lives were turned upside down as Jack was immediately started on a gruelling treatment regime, including chemotherapy.

Jack’s greatest wish was to meet the Chelsea football team so, with a wave of a magic Starlight wand (and a limo), Jack and his family were whisked off to the Chelsea training ground. They had a fantastic day watching the players practice before meeting them all individually, having photos taken and chatting about football while the players signed their autographs. As it just happened to be Jack’s birthday, Frank Lampard, his favourite player, also gave him the shirt off his back and signed it especially for him!

John Terry took the boys on an exclusive “footballers only” tour of the changing rooms before the family headed up to London for Jack’s birthday meal in the Rainforest Café.

Jack’s mum told Starlight: “It was a day none of us will forget and Jack has definitely got his sights set on being in the team one day now – it couldn’t have come at a better time after all his treatment and has made us all feel hopeful about the future!”

Starlight is delighted to report that after eight months at home or in hospital, Jack has returned part-time to primary school.
