Lydia’s Safari adventure

Lydia and family in fron of an elephant

Lydia gets up close with one of the horsesIn October 2011, seven year old Lydia was diagnosed with Brain Stem Glioma, which is a form of cancerous tumour, and as a result she has had to undergo a gruelling course of radiotherapy treatment.  The illness has been very difficult for Lydia but she has been very brave and has never once let it get her down.

Lydia is animal-mad and, according to her mother Cheryl, “if it moves, then Lydia has a fascination with it!”  When she was referred to Starlight, Lydia knew immediately that her wish would be animal-related and she decided to ask to go on safari with her family – the perfect adventure for wildlife lovers!

Starlight contacted The Ant Collection, which has two private bush homes located on their own private game reserve in the magnificent, malaria-free Waterberg region of the Limpopo province in South Africa.  They immediately offered to help, inviting Lydia and her family for an unforgettable safari experience, which included a very special surprise elephant safari and a trip in a helicopter to view the animals from the air!
