On set with BBC2’s Springwatch

Alex, from Powys, absolutely loves nature. Last year, when he was diagnosed with leukaemia, one of the things he missed most was getting out and about and observing the natural world.

Alex’s Starlight Wish turned out to be a ‘money-can’t-buy’ special! He wished to meet the BBC Springwatch team. On 23 May, Alex, his mum, dad and nine-year-old brother Louis were whisked to the BBC studios to meet Kate Humble and Chris Packham and to be part of the filming of the series.

Alex’s mum, Amanda, said: “I can’t believe how fantastic the day was; everyone was just so kind and amazing.”

The crew and presenters were so impressed with Alex’s passion that they gave him his very own bird box with a built-in video camera, something that Alex has wished for his whole life.

Amanda continued: “His Starlight Wish has made Alex so much more confident, and it was wonderful to involve Louis, too. We are just so grateful to Starlight for making my boy’s dream come true.”
