In November 2006, Ruby was diagnosed with a life-threatening strain of cancer that occurs in children called acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Despite the endless hospital visits and treatment, Ruby’s mother Vicki says her daughter “is a very happy, easygoing and beautiful little girl, whose smile is always there.”
“Ruby is a typical little girl in that she loves anything pretty to do with the princesses or fairies. She is a very loving little girl, who adores the idea of the Prince marrying the Princess in a gorgeous dress.” It comes as no surprise then that when Ruby was asked what she would like as her Starlight Wish she chose a trip to the home of the fairytale – Disneyland Paris.
Starlight organised for Ruby, her parents and her little brother, Max, and sister, Poppy, to visit the resort in a style befitting a princess and her family. Staying in Disney’s spectacular Sequoia Lodge, which is themed on America’s national parks and overlooks the lake, Ruby was able to enjoy the delights and excitements of the magical resort with her family to the full.
In order that no corner of Disneyland was left uncovered, Starlight arranged for Ruby to have a very special tour of the theme park. Collecting princess clues such as a glass slipper, rosy red apple and silk pillow along the way, Ruby was taken on a fairytale route to experience all the rides and meet all of her favourite Disney characters, including the princesses.
Although she will require regular blood tests going forward, Ruby has now been given a clean bill of health by the doctors.
