San Diego’s top zookeeper

George went on a wish of a lifetime to San Diego Zoo to find pandas, his favourite creatures in the world, and to experience a day as a zookeeper.

He said: “Seeing giant pandas for the first time was amazing. I saw the most famous panda of all, Su-Lin, who is not on show to the public. I also saw baby tigers that were only four weeks old and met an anteater called Loona, whose tongue was a meter long! I had the best time of my life.”

George, who suffers from medulloblastoma (a type of brain tumour), was so bowled over by his wish that he told his mum he wanted to help other children.

George then organised a 24-hour spin-a-thon with his mum Alison to raise money to help grant the wishes of other seriously ill children. A total of 90 cyclists took part, raising an impressive £1,500.

Starlight’s wish granting team said: “Thank you George for working so hard to help others. We will grant lots of wishes with the funds you have raised!”
