This symposium will explore how public policies for children’s health and healthcare can be more inclusive of children’s need and right to play.

With ever-growing awareness, in academic and policy discourse, of the importance of strategies for health and healthcare that consider holistic wellbeing, preventative care and early intervention, the time is ripe to revisit the case for government policy on play as part of its long-term plans for children’s health.

By bringing together researchers, practitioners, and play advocates alongside policymakers and officials, we will debate how a government policy for play could better support outcomes for children, the NHS, and our wider society.
