Play in Hospital Week (9 - 15 October 2023) is an annual awareness week showcasing the importance of providing the opportunity, space and time for play to children in hospitals.
The theme for this year is ‘Creativity and Innovation in Play’.
Hospitals and treatments can be so scary and traumatising for everyone in a different way. The importance of play to a child in hospital cannot be overstated. Play has the power to make children forget they’re frightened, in pain or alone, and it can improve a child’s mental health and help babies achieve their key developmental milestones. And yet across the UK, hospitals and hospices are struggling to make play happen for the children in their care.
Put simply, when it’s a matter of life or death, play matters more than ever.
That’s why Starlight’s Play in Hospital Week campaign this year is more important than ever.
