Starlight Ambassador Nadiya bakes up a storm with the children of Keech

We were so excited to welcome Starlight Ambassador and celebrity chef Nadiya Hussain to Keech Hospice to join us for a day of baking and play earlier this week!

As part of our Starlight Cake Bake celebrations, Nadiya and the children at the hospice got stuck into making their fabulous rocky road, with the aspiring chefs asking all the important questions like… ‘When can we lick the bowl?’

While waiting for the baking masterpieces to set, the children got creative with a friendship bracelet making session and before we knew it, it was time for the all-important taste test!

It was great to see the children escape from their routine and reality of treatment to enjoy a morning of fun activities with Nadiya. It was a fantastic day for all involved and shows just how important it is for Starlight and organisations like Keech Hospice Care to work together through play and distraction services.

When the day’s activities drew to a close and everyone was full of rocky road, the children said goodbye to Nadiya in style with a song, instruments and all.

I’ve had such a wonderful morning, just being able to sit and bake with the kids, to make bracelets and meet their parents has been so special. Having been the sibling of two sick children when I was growing up, I know how vital it is to enjoy special moments as a family, just doing normal activities like baking.

“Being a Starlight Ambassador means that I can be part of their work by getting involved with days like today. By helping them to bring fun, normality and comfort at what is a really difficult time for families means the world to me. Please help support Starlight to provide more memories to families with sick children by signing up to the Starlight Cake Bake today.
