Our box services

Play is a proven tool that reduces anxiety, improves co-operation during procedures, and leads to better health outcomes for sick children. 

Paediatric healthcare practitioners are busy and overstretched. Starlight is here to support healthcare services with a range of resources selected by our experts to soothe, prepare and distract babies, children and young people so they are more resilient and receptive to treatment.

Box applications close on the 14th each month. For example, if you would like a Prep Box in November, you need to apply before October 14th.

Starlight Services FAQs

Q: Who can I contact if I need help using the contents of my Starlight Box or if a product isn’t working correctly?

Q: Where can I get information about using my Starlight Gaming Bundle

A: For all Gaming Bundle support, please email our Health Play Services team.
 

Q: When is the application deadline?
 

A: Applications usually close on the 14th of each month. Starlight will notify applicants of the outcome by the last Friday of the month in which the box service is available.

Q: How many boxes can I apply for, and how often?
 

A: Approvals depend on resource availability and the number of applications received each month. Applicants are welcome to apply for as many different box services as they require. Starlight allocates resources subject to availability, with the aim of equitable distribution. Please note that multiple applications from the same setting may not all be fulfilled.

Q: Why was my application unsuccessful?

A: If your application is unsuccessful, you will be notified by email for one of the following reasons:

  • Resources requested are not age-appropriate.
  • The applicant’s setting is not UK-based.
  • The application is from a private business or funded health charity. (Please contact [email protected] for further detail on funded resource provision)
  • Limited resources were available this month. (We will offer alternatives where possible.)

Q: How often are Starlight Box services available?

Q: Can I update or cancel my order after submission?

A: Yes. Changes to delivery information, contact details, or cancellations can be made up until the 14th of each month. Please email our Health Play Services team.
 

Q: Do I have to pay for my Starlight Box?

A: No. Starlight Boxes are completely free of charge for NHS providers.

Q: How can I track my order?

A: Starlight Boxes can be tracked via the DPD website: DPD (UK) – Follow My Parcel. You will also receive a text from DPD the day before delivery with your delivery date and tracking details.

Q: Can I change my delivery instructions?
 

A: Yes. Applicants can update delivery details up to the 14th of each month. Please contact our Health Play Services team.

Q: How long will it take to receive my order?
 

A: Starlight Boxes are dispatched within two weeks of applicants receiving their successful application email.

Q: What shipping carriers do you use?
 

A: Starlight uses DPD for all Box service deliveries.

Q: Do you ship overseas?
 

A: Starlight currently delivers only to UK addresses, including Crown Dependencies (e.g., the Isle of Man).

Q: How many delivery attempts will Starlight make?
 

A: Starlight will make two delivery attempts. You will be notified after the first failed attempt. If the second attempt is unsuccessful, you will be emailed and advised to submit a new application in the next available month.

Q: How is my application data protected?
 

A: We collect only the information necessary to deliver appropriate services. Starlight takes data security seriously and implements strict measures to protect your information. For more details, please see our Privacy Policy.

Q: Can I leave feedback about my Starlight Box?
 

A: Yes! You can share your thoughts by completing the feedback form sent to you after you receive your box.

Q: How can I check if Starlight resources are suitable for the children I work with?

Q: Can I buy boxes from the Starlight Play Store?
 

A: No, the Play Store is not a marketplace for purchasing resources. The boxes and toys displayed represent some of the services we provide. This platform allows supporters to donate towards funding these services, helping to bring play to children. More details can be found here: How It Works – The Starlight Playstore.

Q: What’s the latest update on the Hardcase Distraction Box?
 

A: Starlight is currently developing a brand-new Play Box and Play Bag to assist health professionals in delivering play. More details will be available in Spring 2026.
